Soochipara Waterfalls – 20km

Wayanad Heritage Museum-12 km

One of the best-maintained museums in Kerala, the Ambalavayal Heritage Museum houses a rich collection of artefacts which stand in testimony of the fact that there had been an advanced civilisation which existed in the mountains of Wayanad.  This heritage museum is one of the largest and best archaeological museums in the state. Exhibits in the museum include many stone weapons, stone carvings, 14th to 16th century sculptures, potteries of Megalithic Age, hunting equipments, clay sculptures and other interesting artefacts. Idols made of hard and soft rocks, which were believed to be worshipped by the ancient people too can be seen in the museum

Karapuzha Dam-17km

Karappuzha dam, one of the biggest earth dams in the country, is located 13 kms northeast of Kalpetta in Wayanad. This picturesque reservoir contains many small islands scattered around the vast area it occupies. The dam is located near the Karappuzha River, a tributary of the Kabini. The surrounding misty hills and the lush green islands are an ideal breeding ground for many aquatic birds. Situated near the Kakkavayal town, the dam and its serene premises are an ideal leisure spot for holiday lovers to unwind and relax.

Edakkal Caves – 14km

A trip to Edakkal Caves is like a journey into our forgotten past. Located 10 kms from Sulthan Bathery, they have provided historians with great information regarding the lives and habits of our ancestors. The caves are two natural rock formations believed to have been formed by a large split in a huge rock. The carvings inside are extremely beautiful. Surrounded by beautiful greenery on all sides, it is worth spending a day picnicking in the calming embrace of nature.

900 kandi glass bridge – 25km

The glass bridge at this spot is noted for the skywalk it offers. It lets you walk right into the sky and stare into the panoramic tapestry of blue and green. The walk is itself a heady experience and for those few minutes when you are on the glass bridge, you feel truly one with Nature. If you are still up for an adventure, you must amble up the magnificent treehouse that looks as if it scrapes the sky.

Chembra peak -26.4km

Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad district and lives up to its billing of being a picturesque location. It has managed to maintain its pristine nature over the years. Situated 2,100 m above sea level, this peak offers a breath-taking view of rare flora and fauna. One can come across many exotic species in these parts. The route to the peak itself has a brilliant view along with a heart-shaped lake, waterfalls and lush greenery the whole way. It is a prime spot for trekking but prior permission needs to be taken before going on these treks. Guided tours are available and can help in enhancing the entire experience.

Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary – 35km

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the north east and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio-diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest region. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site.

Pookode Lake – 32 km

Pookot Lake, nestled in the lap of mountains, is one of the perfect destinations that any nature-tourist longs to visit. It is vast with an area of 8.5 hectares and with a maximum depth of 6.5 metres. Located at three kilometres from Vythiri, Pookot Lake and the verdant greenery of the rolling hills overlooking the lake, offer a view that is so riveting that it reminds you of a beautiful picture postcard.

Banasurasagar dam – 45km

Situated about 15 km from Kalpetta, the dam holds a large expanse of water and its picturesque beauty is enhanced by the chain of mountains seen on the backdrop.  It is constructed in the Banasura Lake and the nearby mountains are known as Banasura Hills. Legends say that the Asura king of Banasura, (the son of King Mahabali, who is believed to visit Kerala during every Onam festival) undertook a severe penance on the top of these hills and thus it was named after him.  The scenic mountains beckon adventure tourists and the dam site is an ideal starting point for trekking.
